As part of the 19th edition of the ISF Gymnasiade – Summer School Games taking place on May 14-22, 2022 in Normandy – France, the International School Sports Federation (ISF), French School Sports Federation (UNSS), Normandy, decision-makers from the region and the city met in Deauville on 31-4 November 2022 to continue the high-level preparation of the event with regard to all functional areas and in particular the preparation of all sports competitions.
To celebrate this 100-day countdown, a press conference was held today in downtown Deauville, with ISF President Laurent Petrynka, UNSS Country Director Olivier Girault and Deauville City Vice Mayor Philippe Behuet speaking, highlighting the importance of this milestone and praising the close collaboration that has been created between all stakeholders during the preparations.
Laurent Petrynka – ISF President: ISF and UNSS jointly conducted a very successful operational visit to all areas, which met ISF’s expectations in terms of preparatory standards for our organization’s most important multi-sport event at this stage. With high-level support and collaboration from the state, the Normandy region, the nine host cities and the UNSS organizing committee, we are confident that ISF members will leave this event enjoying a unique sporting, educational and cultural experience in France. The ISF is ready for the next steps of preparation for the UNSS event. We look forward to welcoming ISF members together in Normandy in May 2022.
There are only one hundred days left until the event, and the accommodation, logistics and security plans are at a very high level and will guarantee the reception of all delegations in the best and safest conditions. This week, the Presidents and Coordinators of the ISF Sports Technical Committee visited all competition venues and also met with their counterparts from the Local Organizing Committee of a UNSS ISF member, demonstrating the high level of current preparations.
Over 3,500 student athletes aged 16 to 18 from over 70 countries competing in 17 sports and 3 parasports in May 2022; this technical sports visit contributed to further coordination of cooperation between all parties involved in the event. The sports facilities are at an excellent level, and cooperation with international federations and local sports movements will support the provision of fantastic sports experiences to young people from around the world.
As with all ISF events, ISF Gymnasiade Normandy 2022 will provide students from schools around the world with the opportunity to combine high-level sporting competition with cultural and educational activities and experiences. This week allowed for further preparations for the educational activities of the event, in which the Fun and Skills Zone and the School Sports Forum were to be held in Deauville at the International Center of Deauville (CID).
The Fun and Skills Zone will be a space designed as a place where various ISF partners will gather to present their activities, goals and intentions and provide interactive games. The School Sport Forum will bring together a wide range of government decision makers in the field of sport and education, as well as some of the most well-known and respected organizations and federations, to discuss the role of education and sport in youth development.
