The defending champions real Madrid will face arch-rivals Barcelona in Spanish Super Cup 2022-23 final at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

The Spanish Super Cupchanged from a two-team format to a four-team format football tournament in the 2019-20 season featuring the winners and runners-up of La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

Barcelona is the most successful team in the Spanish Super Cup football tournament with 13 titles. However, the Blaugrana have lost six of their seven Super Cup finals against Real Madrid and still have to win the title after the introduction of the new four-team format.

Real Madrid and Barcelona were the first to book their seats El Clasico 2023, beating Valencia and Real Betis respectively in the semi-finals.

Real Madrid, who are on the verge of equaling Barcelona’s record of 13 Super Cup titles, won their semi-final 4-2 on penalties after Karim Benzema’s first-half goal was disallowed by Valencia in the second half.

Meanwhile, Barcelona took the lead twice against Real Betis thanks to Robert Lewandowski and Ansu Fati, but had to win the match on penalties.

Both coaches – Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti and Barcelona’s Xavier Hernandez – are expected to be at full strength without any injuries ahead of the final, which will be played in front of more than 60,000 fans.

It will also be the first Final between Real Madrid and Barcelona in a cup tournament for over five years.

In the final of the 2021-22 Spanish Super Cup, Real Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 with goals from Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.
