Currently, there are only 10 athletes and 7 teams competing for titles! Voting began again with a zero vote on Sunday. Since the beginning of this month, 23 athletes and 12 teams have entered the election. The top 10 athletes and the top 7 teams have advanced to the final round, which will last until January 31 (12:00 GMT = 13 CET). Then the winners will be chosen. What all candidates have in common is that they took part in The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, USA; What they also have in common is that nothing can be achieved without the support of fans.
The rules of the final round are the same as in the preliminary round. World Games fans can choose their favorite in two clicks. Each participant may vote for a candidate – Player, Team of the Year or both – once every 24 hours on The World Games website and votes must be cast for two candidates each time. The first-choice candidate shall be given two votes and the second-choice candidate one vote.
Fans can vote separately for both Sportsman of the Year and Team of the Year. The current ranking and number of votes cast for each candidate will be displayed on the IWGA voting page as the voting period ends.
Anna Jacobson, IWGA Communications Director, comments on the voting process so far: “There are no clear favorites yet this year. Exciting days lie ahead. When it comes to who will win the titles, it is impossible to predict whether in a moment.
“It is clear that candidates who are actively supported by their national and international federations on their online platforms have a clear advantage, although some receive a lot of promotion on social media but fewer votes on the voting site,” continues Anna Jacobson, “Decisive it also has how successful candidates are in activating their fan base through their social media channels.”
Besides, she said, it is clear that the vote has already been a great success. “We see TWG 2022 once again raising awareness among our federations. Voting brings back memories of the great Games in Birmingham, Alabama. That’s what we wanted to achieve and we achieved it.”
“However, in the coming days,” he says, “the World Games family is most excited about who will now finish first, and who will be runner-up and runner-up; these athletes will enjoy trophies and recognition in their country and federation.”

World games is a multi-sport event organized every four years by the International World Games Association, organized with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 2022 World Games took place in Birmingham, Alabama, USA from July 7-17, 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and 100 countries participated in the games. The 12th edition of The World Games will be held in Chengdu, CHN in 2025.
