2022 was special, 2023 will be exciting

Listen to FISU Acting President Leonz Eder share his thoughts on a successful and busy year! Special thanks go to people who contributed to the creation of University Sport and we wish everyone a nice and successful New Year.

“Dear friends of university sports,

What a special year 2022 was. It was with great pleasure at FISU that we welcomed the return of the full university sports calendar. Seeing the joy of our young college athletes competing and sharing new experiences.

The FISU team works non-stop, providing students with many sporting opportunities – including the 12 FISU World University Championships and 4 FISU World University Championships, and the FISU World Forum just held in Costa Rica.

Now we are excitedly waiting for 2023 when our highlights will return.

We won’t have to wait long to feel the magic of winter sports at the long-awaited Lake Placid 2023. Thanks to the organization of the Games, the Olympic facilities are ready to once again host international competitions at the highest level.

Then in the summer we will finally be able to celebrate the long-awaited Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games.

Special thanks also go to the organizing committees of Rhine-Ruhr 2025 and Torino 2025 for their continuous efforts to prepare the future FISU Games.

This is a strong list of future host cities that we recently added by selecting Chungcheong for our 2027 edition.

With so much to do, be sure to follow FISU on social media for exciting updates and stories.

For many of you, the upcoming winter sports competition means that the end of this year will be busier than usual. But I hope that each of you will find time to rest, recharge your batteries and spend time with your loved ones. On behalf of all of us at FISU, I wish you all the best for the season and a happy New Year.”
