The 2023 U.S. Figure Skating Championships are underway in San Jose, California at the SAP Center.
The figure skating competition returns to the site of the 2018 championships, which was chosen by the USA team Pyeongchang 2018.
On Friday (January 27), both the women’s free skate and, earlier in the day, the men’s short program took place.
Fifteen Isabella Levito she won her first women’s singles title, winning by about 10 points over the two-time champion Brady Tennell. Levito led by just 0.02 points after the short program but extended that gap in the free skate.
In men’s shorts Ilia Malinin is a skate away from his first national title at age 18 with 110.36, while Jason Browncompeting for the first time since then Beijing 2022it ranks second at 100.25.
Also on Thursday reigning pairs world champions Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier took the lead, just like the three-time world medalists in ice dancing, Madison Chock and Evan Bates.
