Asia Cup 2022 archery stage 3: India finish with 10 medals

Indian archers dominated Asia Cup 2022 stage 3 held in Sharjah from December 20 to 25, it won the most medals at a continental event with 10 medals – five gold, three silver and two bronze.

Seven of India’s 10 medals in Stage 3 of the Archery Asia Cup 2022 were won by compound archers.

It was a clean podium for Indian archers in the women’s individual event as Pragati won the gold medal after beating compatriot Aditi Gopichand Swami 144-142 in the final.

Parneet Kaur, who defeated top seed Oh Yoohyun of South Korea in the quarterfinals before falling to Aditi in the semifinals, defeated fellow Korean Seungyeon Han 146-145 in a close battle for the bronze medal.

Pragati and Aditi Gopichand Swami were also part of the complex women’s team that won the gold medal after beating South Korea in a close shootout in the final. The duo teamed up with Aishwarya Sharma to win India’s first medal in Sharjah.

The Indian men’s team of Priyansh, Ojas Pravin Deotale and Manav Ganeshrao Jadhao also won gold in their tournament, defeating another Korean team 230-224 in the final.

Priyansh and Ojas Pravin Deotale were also finalists in the individual event where Priyansh won the gold medal after beating Ojas, the top seed, 148-141. Manav Jadhao was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Ojas.

In recurve archery, India’s only individual medal was bronze, won by Parth Sushant Salunke in the men’s category. The young archer, who also impressed on stage 2 of the Iranian competition, lost to Kazakh archer Ilfat Abdullin, the eventual gold medalist, 6-4 in the semi-finals, but defeated Korea’s Minseung Kang 7-3 in the bronze medal match.

In fact, Parth Salunke was part of all three Indian medals in the recurve archery competition. Parth teamed up with Mrinal Chauhan and Akash to win the men’s recurve team gold medal. The trio defeated South Korea 5-4 in the play-off to secure first place.

In the mixed team recurve event, Parth Salunke and Tisha Punia won the silver medal after losing to Chinese Taipei in the final.

The women’s recurve team also came close to the podium but lost to Vietnam in the bronze medal game.

India sent a junior team to the continental meeting.
