Congratulations to Alexandra Filipova from Slovakia, our December 2022 Competitor.
The 23-year-old kickboxer won the WAKO World Pro title in the women’s K1 71 Kilo category in December. She won against Aleksandra Krstic of Serbia in her first ever five-round fight, with the judges voting in her favor 3-0. Alexandra Filipova had more than one reason to cherish the moment of winning the gold and winning the championship belt as an early Christmas present: first, her success was achieved in front of her home fans, as the World Championships were held in Poprad, Slovakia at the end of the year. Additionally, the title fight was a rematch of the final in the same classes at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, USA in July. Aleksandra Krstic won the decisive fight for the Olympic gold 3:0.
“My revenge for Birmingham was successful! I was afraid of those five rounds, I didn’t know what to expect. Now, after the fight, I can say that I can take one more round. But who knows what tomorrow will be like? Maybe I won’t even get back on my feet.” – said Filipova immediately after receiving the belt and proudly displaying it to the delight of her fans, it was also revenge for the final of the 2019 world championships, which fell to the Serbian, who is her all-time rival in the category under 71 kg.
This year, the December World Games athlete won gold medals on the Kickboxing tour known as the Kickboxing World Series, including the Hungarian World Cup, which she won three times, but was never able to call herself World Champion until December 16, 2022.
Alexandra Filipova studies economics in Prague and lives in Košice.
As the World Games Athlete of the Month, Alexandra Filipova will receive The World Games Athlete of the Month award as well as a branded gift from World Games.
