While the official opening ceremony of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games is still days away, an important opening took place this morning on July 22, at FISU Games Village. Located on the campus of Chengdu University, the FISU Games Village is expected to welcome more than 9,500 athletes and officials to compete, train and support from July 28 to August 8.
Many speakers offered their greetings, including Mr. Zhou Jinqiang, vice minister of the General Administration of Sports of China and vice president The Organizing Committee of the FISU World University Games Chengdu 2021 and Mr. Wang Fengchao, Mayor of the People’s Government of Chengdu City and Vice President and Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the FISU World University Games Chengdu 2021.
FISU General Secretary and CEO Eric Saintrond addressed the participants and spoke about reaching this milestone and the importance of FISU Games Village. “The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived,” he said. “The Game Village is the soul of the party. All athletes living together in harmony.”
The dignitaries in attendance officially opened the FISU Game Village, which then led to a ceremony to welcome the first delegation entering the village, the Chinese one. The national flag of the People’s Republic of China was raised to welcome their delegation, many of whom were present, to the FISU Games Village. Additional delegations will begin arriving and moving into the village in the coming days, all in preparation for the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games opening ceremony on July 28.
