Cuba, September 11, 2019 – The Cuban School Sports Federation organized the 55th edition of the School Sports Games organized by the Department of School Sports at the national level with the support of the National Sports Federations.
Every year, the event contributes greatly to the promotion of Cuban sport. School Sport Games presents the talent pool and starting point for most Cuban professional athletes.
Every year, an average of 8,800 young athletes take part in the Games, divided into different age categories (9-18 years old). Together with the coaches, judges, delegates and medical staff, the total number of participants rises to 13,000. The largest age group are high school students (15-18 years old).

Countries that regularly participate in the School Sports Games include Guatemala, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Peru, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the United States. Most participating teams/delegations are formed as part of the National School Sports Games.
In addition to sports competitions, the competition also includes a cultural program that promotes education through sport and contributes to the social development of young people.
