FIDE, ISF (International School Sports Federation) and World Chess are proud to announce FIDE – ISF World School Teams Online Chess Cup 2023which will take place in March 2023. This exciting event provides a platform for schools from FIDE and ISF member countries, as well as students from around the world* to connect with chess enthusiasts from around the world and showcase their skills in the official international chess tournament.
As chess in schools becomes more and more important, the organizers of FIDE – ISF World School Teams Online Chess Cup 2023 are eager to support this initiative aimed at incorporating chess into the school education system.
“Chess is a unique game – both extremely sporty and educational. We are happy that together with the ISF we can organize the Online Schools Chess Championship. This is a great event that we hope will create an atmosphere of competition, but also motivate school leaders to engage their students in further training and learning,” says FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich.
The tournament will be held in two age categories, U15 and U18, with approximately 200 teams from around the world taking part. Each school team must consist of 4 to 7 full-time students from the same school.
Winners and medalists will be rewarded with exclusive practice sessions with world-renowned grandmasters, GM-signed chessboards, subscriptions to the World Chess Masterclasses program, and premium FIDE Online Arena membership packages.
The tournament will take place online at the FIDE Online Arena, with the final stage broadcast live on the World Chess and FIDE YouTube channels.

March 18, 2023: Qualifying Tournament 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 – Teams
March 19, 2023: Qualifying Tournament 2005, 2006 and 2007 – Teams
March 25, 2023: Final tournament 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 – Teams
March 26, 2023: Final tournament 2005, 2006 and 2007 – Teams
Registration for the tournament will open on February 6 and run until March 11, 2023 at isf.fide.com.

In September 2021, FIDE and the ISF signed a memorandum of understanding to ensure the development and promotion of chess through school sport. The document signed as part of the School Sports Forum held in Serbia encourages and supports the education of youth through chess sport and culture, contributes to the social and intellectual development of youth, and promotes chess sport and chess in education at the local and international level.
