The long-awaited FIH 2023 Men’s Hockey World Championship will officially begin with a solemn opening ceremony at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha on Wednesday.
Dubbed ‘Celebrations’, the opening ceremony of the World Hockey Championship will showcase India’s rich culture and latest advances. During the gala, international and local Odia stars will light up the stadium with their music and dance performances.

Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh and Disha Patani, internationally acclaimed K-Pop band BLACKSWAN, featuring their own Shreya Lenk Odisha, are just some of the stars set to perform in a packed 40,000-capacity stadium.
Bollywood music composer Pritam who composed Hockey Hai Dil Merathe official anthem of the Ice Hockey World Cup, will also perform live with the 11 singers who sang the song.
FIH Ice Hockey World Championship Opening Ceremony kicks off at Barabati Stadium from 6pm IST (Indian Time) on Wednesday. The Cuttack District Administration also announced the closure of schools and colleges after 2:00 p.m. IST on Wednesday.
Giant LED screens and 16 hockey fan parks have been set up throughout the city to broadcast the opening ceremony live.
“The ceremony is an integral part of the tournament as it symbolizes our pride in both our state and nation for hosting the Hockey World Cup for the second consecutive year,” said Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey.
After the opening ceremony, the action will move to Bhubaneswar and Rourkela – two cities that will host FIH Hockey World Cup matches from January 13th.
The Indian men’s hockey team will kick off against Spain at the newly built Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on January 13.
