Delegations from around the world are attending the Heads of Delegation (HoD) Meeting from March 27 to April 1 in the Chinese city of Chengdu ahead of the 2021 FISU World University Games in Chengdu.
A total of 79 delegations participate in the meeting, of which 33 are present on site and 46 assist remotely.
The acting President of FISU, Leonz Eder, thanked the organizing committee and government authorities for their extraordinary work and hospitality.
“Athletes will benefit (…). However, our common mission is not only to provide athletes with the opportunity to show their best side. This is, of course, to give them the opportunity to grow as human beings, to reach their fuller potential, and to do all this as part of a peaceful and respectful celebration,” he said in his welcome speech.
In the first part of the meeting, members of the organizing committee briefed the delegates on the various operations, processes and policies that will be implemented at the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games – covering topics such as accreditation, visa issuance, arrivals and departures, transportation, security, finance, anti-doping controls, catering, medical services, opening and closing ceremonies, media, ticketing, cultural activities and delegation services.
The delegates also visited some of the main venues where the event was to take place. The visits will continue in the coming day. The HoD match will then conclude with a team draw, followed by various cultural events.
FISU delegates and staff expressed very positive impressions after what they heard and saw, agreeing with the organizing committee that “Chengdu is ready”!
