When you can Mikaela Shiffrin overtake the record of another American, Lindsey Vonn, as the most successful women’s alpine skier in World Cup racing?
Tuesday (January 10) is the first chance for the two-time Olympic champion. He heads to Flachau, Austria for the famous night slalom race, trying to get past Vonn and with just Ingemar Stenmark (86) overtook her after she claimed her 82nd career victory in the giant slalom race in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, on Sunday.
At the Flachau circuit, named after the Austrian legend Hermann Maier, Shiffrin competed nine times, finished on the podium eight times and won four times in total (the last one in January 2021).
The 27-year-old is in first place in the overall World Cup standings with 1,115 points, which is 419 points ahead of Petr Vlhova.
This season, Shiffrin is fighting for her fifth overall title, which would put her second on the all-time winners list, behind Austria Annemarie Moser-Pröll which has six titles to its credit.
