In the summer of 2027, the FISU World University Games will be held in Chungcheong Megacity, Korea. A clear choice was made at the FISU Executive Committee meeting in Brussels.
This brought tears to the North Carolina delegation, whose candidacy was also strong. As Acting FISU President Leonz Eder said, “We would be delighted to have North Carolina host the FISU World University Games in the future on the first available opportunity.”
But in the other camp the result was greeted with cheers and duly celebrated.
“It’s really a great blessing for our community, our country in general, so I just hope we get a chance to see how happy Koreans are,” said Tae in-Young, communications director of the Chungcheong Bid Committee.
“It was hard work because it wasn’t one community working on it, we had four common communities that came together as a megacity. They’re four different regions with different characteristics, and we’ve really tried to find a way to bring their people together.”
“Infrastructure is actually the easiest way to do it and the council thought it was the best idea and now we’re getting it and we want to show the world how happy we are.”
