World Champions in Rock’n’Roll, Michelle Uhl and Tobias Bludau (GER) won bronze at The World Games 2017, but in 2022 they climbed to the top of the podium with a gold medal at The World Games in Birmingham, Alabama. “We’ve been training for 5 years for this moment,says the couple. They’re back in Birmingham this week!
“We started DanceSport young, at the age of 7,” say Uhl and Bludau. “We danced in the same club and Sometimes also together in the same junior formation. For past 8 yearswe danced as top class couple rock and roll.” The dance discipline is their favorite because “the perfect combination of strength, competitive gymnastics and dance“.
During the 8 years of their joint career, Uhl and Bludau competed in two editions of The World Games. They won bronze in Wroc?aw 2017 and gold in Birmingham 2022. “Atmosphere at the 2022 World Games it was amazing. We’ve always had this feeling of being IN a large family of sports, starting with athletes‘ Inchamber and ending with the stage in the arena. Our best moment was of course standing on the podium and finally fulfilling our biggest dream, World Games gold medal!” says the couple. “ WoRld Games is different from all other championships.We trained for 5 years for this one moment!”
Michelle Uhl and Tobias Bludau also practice other sports. Bludau is a former hockey player and Uhl swam. If they were to compete in another sport The World Games, they would choose Breaking or Life Saving. “We enjoyed watching these sports in Birmingham and the atmosphere at Breaking was amazing!”
The couple managed to see some sports live during the Games while watching others on TV. “It was a fantastic experience,” they say. “It was special not only to compete in my own sport, but also to see other amazing athletes and sports.”
After The World Games, the rock’n’roll couple ended their sports careers. Bludau works as an engineer and Uhl as a nurse.
World games is a multi-sport event organized every four years by the International World Games Association, organized with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 2022 World Games took place in Birmingham, Alabama, USA from July 7-17, 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and 100 countries participated in the Games. The 12th edition of The World Games will be held in Chengdu, CHN in 2025.
