Mikaela Shiffrin will have to wait to make history after the cancellation of the second slalom in Zagreb scheduled for Thursday (January 5).
On Wednesday, the two-time Olympic champion in alpine skiing dominated with her 81st place. Lindsey Vonnall-time women’s record of 82.
Unprecedentedly high temperatures in the Croatian capital meant soft snow fell and the starting gate was lowered to make it easier for the competitors to start.
And on Thursday such heat combined with strong winds led to the second race at Sljeme is cancelled.
Shiffrin, 27, is now heading to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia for two giant slalom races this weekend, where she could match and possibly break Vonn’s record.
She will then aim for an outright record of 86, which is held by Sweden Ingemar Stenmark.
