Polish Women's Boxing Championships 2022: Nikhat Zareen in the final

Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain and world champion Nikhat Zareen made it to the finals of Polish Women’s Boxing Championships 2022 in Bhopal on Sunday.

Lovlina Borgohain, representing Assam in the under 75 kg category, had an easy performance against Jigyasa Rajput from Madhya Pradesh and won by unanimous decision to fight for the gold medal. She will face 2021 World Junior Champion Arundhati Choudhary of the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) in the final on Monday.

Telangana’s Nikhat Zareen won 5-0 over Shvinder Kaur of All India Police (AIP) in the 50kg semi-finals and will face Anamika for the gold medal.

In addition to Lovlina Borgohain and Nikhat Zareen, bronze medalists of the world championships Manisha (57 kg) from Haryana, Punjab Simranjit Kaur (60 kg) and eight boxers from the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) also advanced to the final.

Manisha defeated RSPB’s Sonia Lather 4-1 to face Vinakshi of Himachal Pradesh in the final. Simranjit Kaur (60kg) defeated AIP’s Kros Hmangaihsangi and will face RSPB’s Poonam in the clash at the top.

Manju Ranisilver medalist of the 2019 world championships and 2017 youth world champion Jyoti Gulia, will be favorites to win the title in 48kg and 52kg respectively. They both represent the RSPB.

Manju Rani continued her good form and defeated Anjali Sharma of Madhya Pradesh 5-0. On Monday, he will face S Kalaivani from Tamil Nadu in the final.

Jyoti Gulia defeated Sonia from Uttar Pradesh 4-1 and will face Sakshi from SSCB in the final.

The other six Railways boxers who advanced to the finals were Anupama (50 kg), Shikhsa (54 kg), Poonam (60 kg), Shashi (63 kg), Anupama (81 kg) and Nupur (81+ kg).

The finals of the Polish Women’s Boxing Championships 2022 will take place on Monday.
