Athletes to Watch in World Triathlon Championship Series Final: Hayden Wilde, Alex Yee, Flora Duffy and Georgia Taylor-Brown vie for gold

New Zealand Olympic bronze medalist Hayden Wilde he holds the pole position for the world title in Abu Dhabi, knowing that a win or even a second place finish this week will earn him the highest honors of the season. The man most likely to stand in his way is the Tokyo 2020 silver medalist from Great Britain Alex Yeewho has accumulated 3,732.09 points so far this season, just over 117 fewer than Wilde.

Had Yee (24) won and Wilde (25) finished third or lower, the Briton would have won the overall title. And if one of them is crowned champion, they will become the youngest season title holders since then Alistair Brownlee in 2009.

While Wilde and Yee are the two main contenders for the title, there are others who could spoil the party if the race results go their way.

France Leo Berger and Belgium Jelle Genes they are third and fourth in the table and both could win the title if the top two perform below the high standards they have set for themselves this season.

The women’s race is also likely to be a head-to-head shootout between the two Olympic medalists, with the British Georgia Taylor-Brown – silver in Tokyo – at 3925.00 points. of four scoring events and an Olympic champion Flora Duffy just behind 3855.63.

Duffy reaches the final thanks to a spectacular victory in her home race of the World Triathlon Series in Bermuda, but they both know that a victory in Abu Dhabi is enough to become a world champion.

Don’t rule out the GB team though Beth Potter or USA Taylor Knibb who, while further behind with 3,200.73 and 3,189.91 points respectively, still have outside chances of winning the title. The odds are slim for both of them, and Knibb needs both Taylor-Brown and Duffy to finish outside the top ten, but a triathlon is such an unpredictable thing that miracles can happen – and sometimes they do.
