New Zealand double in the World Rugby Sevens Series in Sydney

There was someone to cheer for New Zealand on World Rugby Sevens Series in Sydney, where both the men’s and women’s teams won the titles on Sunday (January 29).

Women’s team who won Olympic gold in Tokyo 2020recorded a 33–0 win in the quarter-finals over Japan and 41–0 thrashed Ireland in the semi-finals en route to the final.

Coming in as strong favorites, the Kiwis managed to keep another clean sheet by overpowering France 35-0.

Teniki Willison and Jazmin Felix-Hotham both scored two tries with Portia Woodman-Wickliffe also cross the border.

It was the third win in a row for Wis?a black fernswho are now 12 points clear of their nearest rivals Australia in the standings.

The bronze final was won by USA, which defeated Ireland 12-5.

A similar story happened in the men’s final, where All Black defeated South Africa 38-0 and took their first tournament win of the season.

The samples came from Roderick Solo, Joe Webber, Sam Dickson, Akuila Rokolisoa, Amanaki Nicole, and Ngarohi McGarvey-Black.

Previously, the Kiwis defeated Samoa 12-0 and France 36-5 in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

This performance extends their lead in the standings to nine points ahead of South Africa Blitzboks in a second.

The next men’s tournament will be held in Los Angeles on February 25-26, and the women’s in Vancouver on March 3-5.
