In the 1990s until 2013, there was a decline in the development of physical education in Albania, which resulted in obesity and substance abuse among schoolchildren.
In 2014, the Albanian School Sports Federation implemented a new theoretical and practical platform for physical education professionals and created it for students (aged 6-18) enrolled in the pre-university education system.
The Sejm adopted the Sports Act (No. 79/2017) and physical education was increased to three hours a week.
The new measurements resulted in a significant reduction in obesity among all students, and most importantly, they brought back smiles and joy. Currently, Albania is experiencing a significant increase in physical activity among its citizens.

The honorary president of the Albanian School Sports Federation is Mr. Rauf Dimraj, who is also one of the leading forces in implementing a new science-based strategy for the development of physical activity among pre-university youth. The platform focuses on the healthy, functional and structural development of children aged 3-6, 6-12, 12-15 and 15-18 years old, as well as adults.
The main goal is to make the public aware that, based on human genetics, physical activity should be a priority.
The Albanian School Sports Federation is currently subscribing to a number of projects such as:
Development of entertaining movement games for preschool children aged 3 to 6. It is a cyclical action organized 1-2 times a year, in which 5,000 children take part.
Train a group of preschoolers in a fun-filled movement program complete with a book full of powerful graphics and illustrations. This unique book has still not been published due to lack of funds.
Evolution of long-distance running in nature and other forms of sports activity of students aged 6-18.
