The FIH 2023 Men’s Hockey World Championship will be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, two cities in the Indian state of Odisha, from January 13 to 29. Fans can watch the show hockey event, including India matches, live on TV and live.
A total of 16 teams – Australia, Argentina, France, South Africa, Belgium, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Malaysia, Chile, India, England, Spain and Wales – will play in the historic Men’s Hockey World Trophy Cup.
Pakistan, the most successful men’s hockey world championship team with four titles, failed to qualify for the 2023 tournament. India has won the world hockey championship once, in 1975.
The 16 teams were divided into four groups of four teams each. Hosts India are in Group D while reigning champions Belgium, who won the 2018 edition in Bhubaneswar, are in Group B.
The teams that finish first in their groups after the group stage will go directly to the quarter-finals. The second and third place teams from each pool will play crossover matches to determine the remaining two quarter-finalists.
All teams will continue to play placement matches until their positions are finalized.
Two venues, the newly built Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela and the iconic Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, will host all matches of the 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Championship. The final will take place on January 29 at Kalinga Stadium.
The Indian men’s hockey team captained by Harmanpreet SIngh will kick off their 2023 World Cup men’s hockey campaign against Spain at Birsa Munda Stadium. The match will start live at 19:00 Indian time (IST).
