The First Volleyball League 2023 kicks off on Saturday, February 4, with 31 matches scheduled for the season in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi.
Calicut Heroes, Kochi Blue Spikers, Ahmedabad Defenders, Hyderabad Black Hawks, Chennai Blitz, Bengaluru Torpedoes, Mumbai Meteors and Kolkata Thunderbolts are the eight teams participating in the second edition First Volleyball League (PWL). Mumbai Meteors will make their tournament debut this year.
Each team will play against seven other teams in a round-robin format during the league stages, with the top four advancing to the volleyball league semi-finals. The final will be played in Kochi, and the date has not yet been set.
The first edition of the PVL featured seven teams and was played behind closed doors at the indoor Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad due to COVID-19. The Kolkata Thunderbolts defeated the Ahmedabad Defenders in the PVL 2022 Finals to claim their maiden title.
Top ranked Indian volleyball players Vinit Kumar and Shon T John, as well as the likes of Venezuela’s Luis Antonio Arias, Cuban Henry Bell Cisnero and US Olympic gold medalist David Lee were among the highlights of the first season.
